The most difficult part for someone like me in building a website is adding in the shopping cart functionality so that folks can purchase products from the site.
I am a co-partner in another website that sells a variety of products using shopping cart software. Quite often I get calls from irate or very worried prospective purchasers telling me we billed their AMEX three times and what are we going to do about it? Since this happens with some frequency, I can tell them with surety that their card was not billed at all. The connection between the site, the shopping cart and the service we use simply broke down. We have tried to fix the problem but with three different third parties involved each points the finger of blame at the other. And I'm left dealing with someone who not unreasonably thinks they have been conned and wants to rip my head off. We generally lose that customer too.
Our experiences show that what we SHOULD have done was use a complete service that includes the shopping cart and everything else. I have found one. It's at Ashop.com. Here you can build you entire hosted site quite cheaply selecting the pricing option that suits your budget and traffic. Everything is outsourced to them so no worries about things going wrong, irate customers saying we charged their cad 8 times and so on backed up by great customer service just in case a problem does arise.
Why not pop over to their site and take a test drive of their shopping cart software right now. It could save you a bunch of headaches.....
