OK, I promise this will be my last 'Hull City' post for a while. But, I can't help wanting to rant a bit about the media and Hull City. Hull were promoted to the Premier League just last Saturday and within minutes, all sorts of media folks were predicting that Hull City will be relegated back to the Championship after a single year. They (rightly) point to the gap between the two leagues and how fewer than 50% of promoted teams last more than 1 year.... but my god, can we celebrate just a day or two before you start wringing your hands and spelling out disaster and doom?
I mean our first trip to Wembley, first ever promotion to the Premier league, that amazing goal..... can we focus on the positives before we immediately bring out the Hull City RIP headstone? Does focusing on the positive accomplishments of the previous season sell less newspapers than predicting doom and gloom? I guess it must.
You know, Hull is a city of about 260,000 people but the conurbation is more like 500,000. Even in the lower divisions, Hull City got better attendance than several 'big name' Premier league clubs. In fact, the club has the 15th best average attendance in England! The open top bus tour of the city last Monday was attended by 50,000 to 100,000 fans depending on which report you believe...so 20% to 40% of the city's population turned out to celebrate.... The argument that Hull can't be a big club has no weight. It already is a BIGGER club than several Premier league regulars.
Let's wait through the summer and see who Hull City signs and maybe, just maybe, watch a few games next season shall we before making dire predictions! I know some other team supporters are jealous and will say stupid things like one post on a major UK website that said he hoped he team bus would blow up, but surely the national media can do better?
I mean if you can't write something positive then why don't you publish some big tit pictures instead.... judging from the content of most UK newspapers, that's about all you are good for anyway.
